Information Architects Japan has released an update to an interesting visualization of theirs displaying the most popular internet sites in a format inspired by the Tokyo subway system. It is the second version of their Web Trend Map.

“the 200 most successful websites on the web, ordered by category, proximity, success, popularity and perspective.”

I find this type of visualization interesting because although it uses a unique format to display large and complex information, for me, it brings up more questions than it answers. Sometime seeing information in a different way leads you to ask questions you never knew you’d ask…

“Each website on the map stands as a (more or less) successful paradigm for an interactive brand, design or business model.”

I think it’s interesting how prevalent Facebook has become recently, getting a significantly central positioning on the map… it has certainly become a major player in the world that is the Internet.
