WeShowTheMoney.com is a visual approach to the US election donation.

Data is taken from National Institute on Money in State Politics, a nonpartisan organization dedicated to the documentation and research on campaign financing at the state level.

The images are the result of the first attempt to show the data using the fantastic prefuse visualization library.

You can also check out Unfluence.com, a web program that generates interactive network maps of state level political contribution data.

The basic idea is to help people understand the context of political giving, and the relative positions of various candidates in terms of who is paying for their campaign.

The Unfluence site constructs maps of the funding relations between groups of candidates and donors. The data come from candidates’ required disclosures, collected and made available to the public by the National Institute on Money in State Politics (NIMSP).
