The Superbowl was quite surprising this year…. the game was better than the ads!
I thought the advertising was a bit sluggish this year compared to previous years. I wondered if the lack of hype surrounding the game hurt the over-the-top ads I’m familiar seeing during the game breaks?
I found an interesting NY Times infographic on superbowl ads: The Super Ad Bowl: Two Decades of Players. (via: Steve Outing.com)
A simple slider takes you back through the years, where you can click to watch the ads. (I do wish the Times had found more old ads to include, though.) The graphic doesn’t feature flashy, sexy design — actually, it’s a bit bland looking — but it is brilliantly designed. The form is good enough; the function is what makes it.
For 2008, at about $90,000 a second for advertising during the superbowl, the ads must have been the cream of the crop.
So just for fun… here are some memorable ads from yesterday:
Pepsi
E-Trade
Doritos
