What are Sankey Diagrams?

I came across a great site, Sankey Diagrams, created by Phineas. It is a site dedicated to, guess what? Sankey Diagrams.

Sankey diagrams are a specific type of flow diagram, in which the width of the arrows is shown proportionally to the flow quantity. They are typically used to visualize energy or material transfers between processes.

The Sankey Diagrams site contains additional definitions, a discussion of Sankey diagram software, and a biography of Sandkey. I particularly like the blog posts on methodology.

One of the blog posts links to a library of Sandkey Diagrams, a few of which are below.

Great contribution Phineas!!! Thanks for putting it together!!
