If you’re looking for an easy way to keep abreast of political races at a high level, Pollster.com is worth a look. The interactive mouse-over map, with its color coding, gives users the ability to quickly get a grasp on trends developed from a wide collection of polls.

But where do they get the data?

The numbers for each candidate correspond to the most recent trend estimate — that is the end point of the trend line for each candidate.

In most cases, the numbers are not an “average” but rather regression based trendlines. The specific methodology depends on the number of polls available.

The interactive US map has the ability to drill down to polls at the state level.
