Effective Heatmap Visualization of SF Rental Market

CraigStatsSF displays rental data from San Francisco overlayed on Google Maps. Many of the the visualizations use a heatmap technique seen above.

The above visualization shows the cost of housing of all types.

I think this is an extremely effective project. You can easily see where the most expensive real estate is.

From the site:

This site presents summary data from an ongoing database of the rental market in San Francisco.
This allows us to display the cost of renting on a per neighborhood basis, in a heatmap, or binned in1/2 mile intervals.

This database is gleaned soley from craigslist, and we have been storing all of the San Francisco craigslist rental listings since August of 2006.

This graphs and plots within are updated nightly, save the heatmaps, which will be updated monthly.
