First of all, what is Digg?

Digg is a place for people to discover and share content from anywhere on the web. From the biggest online destinations to the most obscure blog, Digg surfaces the best stuff as voted on by our users. You won’t find editors at Digg — we’re here to provide a place where people can collectively determine the value of content and we’re changing the way people consume information online.

If you’re not familiar with Digg you should really check it out. Other than being useful for pointing web surfers in the direction of great sites, Digg is also a fantastic platform for data visualizations.

Proving that I’m not the first to believe so, Digg, in collaboration with Intel and stamen design, has launched Digg Labs.

The labs provide a broader (and deeper) view of Digg. A lot of stuff gets submitted to Digg every day, so good things can sometimes fly right past you. Labs projects look beneath the surface of the Digg community’s activities.

Digg Labs newest visualization is ARC

Digg Arc displays stories, topics, and containers wrapped around a sphere. Arcs trail users as they digg stories across topics. Stories with more diggs make thicker arcs.

Check it out.
