NY Times’ Visualization Lab lets users create visual representations of data and information using the “Many Eyes” technology from IBM Research.

Viz Lab

This version of Many Eyes, specifically designed for The New York Times, empowers users to visualize and comment on information and data sets presented by Times editors, share those visualizations with others and create topic hubs where people can discuss specific subjects.

I totally buy in to the stated purpose behind this NY Times/Many Eyes collaboration:

“Like the creators of Many Eyes, The Times believes that users could bring their insight to the process of interpreting data and information and discovering new and innovative ways of presenting them.”

Unfortunately, the only data sets currently available to users are those supplied by NY Times. The more data available, the better the Lab will be. We’ll see if it opens up further in the future.

A couple examples of visualizations available at the Lab.

I have just created my first interactive ManyEyes map “Ease of doing business index in different countries”http://manyeyes.alphaworks.ibm.com/manyeyes/visualizations/easy-of-doing-business I posted the map as image in my blog Russian Sphinxhttp://russiansphinx.blogspot.com/2010/06/warning-business-friendly-economies.html
ManyEyes is user friendly so you do not need to spend a lot of time to create good chart or map, but I am not sure if it is good solution for me. I need good charts and maps for my blog. Interactive maps looks perfect but I am not able to place them as interactive on my blog, so I just post normal image and add link to ManyEyes. Maybe it will be a bit annoying for my visitors and I will have to focus on static maps.
I also use Tableau Public.
