Flight Patterns as Art

Not all information visualization is developed with the intention of offering a means to uncover some dramatic insight. For example, take these flight pattern visualizations found at Aaron Koblin’s site.

You’re looking at the paths of air traffic over North America visualized in color and form.

FAA data was parsed and plotted using the Processing programming environment. The frames were composited with Adobe After Effects and/or Maya.
