- Business Intelligence Solutions from SAS and Oracle Emerge as Clear Market Leaders, says Datamonitor.
Once exclusively a specialist tool, Business Intelligence (BI) now forms an integral part of many core business processes, according to Datamonitor. This trend lends a distinct advantage to BI vendors providing high-quality end-to-end solutions, particularly as enterprises are looking to consolidate their BI needs around one single-vendor solution. Datamonitor cautions, however, that although the market leaders are well placed to maintain their position, the BI space is replete with others vendors that could challenge the current leaders, as evident in its BI vendor Decision Matrix report. - Microsoft Launches Aggressive Business Intelligence Initiative - There are some interesting things going on over at Microsoft. Microsoft rarely hits the high-end features of business intelligence, but they usually get the bottom 80% well. When combined with attractive price points and integration with their other suites of tools. Microsoft’s offerings are always worth examining.
Jeff Raikes, president of Microsoft’s business division, ticked off the strides Redmond has taken thus far in preparation for its push into BI: It has expanded relationships with [industry partners]; it has acquired SoftArtisans’ OfficeWriter for managed report authoring in Microsoft Office; and it has developed a road map for its forthcoming BI platform stack, code-named “Katmai,” which it plans to deliver in 2008. - Cognos Brings Business Intelligence To Your BlackBerry - Business Intelligence is starting to move to mobile devices. Industry hype has certainly started. That must mean that robust capability is probably only 2-3 years away.
Sounds like Cognos and some its competitors, including Business Objects, are using J2ME to extend BI reports and analytics to BlackBerry smartphones, which is a good sign for the rest of the mobile business market. If mobile BI takes off, you can bet other applicatons, like sales force automation (SFA) and field mobility, will also soon take off with business users. (via InformationWeek Blog)
