Actionable Information

Businesses are rife with data - so much data that it can become overwhelming. Frequently, analysis goes unused when it is not presented in an actionable format.

I worked once for a cable company that was in a competitive market. This was when a local cable company would generally have no competition. The company had a great data warehouse that displayed where they were losing customers on this elaborate color-coded map of their city. The data was of high quality. They received the report in a timely manner. The data was even integrated with their other systems. The problem? Actions were never taken. A meeting full of hand wringing and paralyzing analysis would occur.

The value of business intelligence must be measured in the value of actions taken.
